About the Longevity Project
The Longevity Project was founded to make Ghanaians
aware of the hazards that diminish our life expectancy
and to support individuals’ efforts to reduce or eliminate
those risks.
THE PROBLEM
- Life Expectancy in Ghana is currently under 65 years
- Quality of Life is fairly low due to relative ill health, low productivity and resulting poverty
CAUSES
- Malaria
- Malnutrition
- Maternal and infant morbidity and mortality
- Chronic, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer
- Contributing Factors:
- Lack of awareness of dangers that bad hygiene, poor diet, lack of physical exercise, and chronic stress pose to our health and quality of life
- Absence of recreation and fitness facilities and programs
pose significant barriers to fitness
THE SOLUTIONS
- Increase Public Awareness of health risks and available solutions
- Educate and Sensitize Public regarding the immense benefits of a healthy diet and moderate exercise
- Encourage and Support individuals’ efforts to reduce risks and increase fitness
Even a modest change in lifestyle, such as walking briskly for half an hour every day, can prolong one’s life expectancy.
This is a national problem and as the saying goes, “Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of the country.” This includes taxi drivers and accountants, kenkey sellers and business managers, carpenters and lawyers, the clergy and shop-keepers, doctors and masons, journalists and CEOs, all who are thankful for their life and its blessings.
